01 / Start with what the boxes need to do.
If you want boxes you can keep for storage, purchased cardboard may fit the job. If you are planning a move with time to unpack before an agreed return, reusable rental bins are another option. The useful comparison is the whole packing-and-unpacking plan—not simply paper versus plastic.
Frogbox rents reusable moving bins for the Houston region. We are not a cardboard-box retailer or a full-service moving crew: you pack and move your belongings. This guide explains where each box choice can fit, including reasons buying cardboard may be the better choice for your particular move.
02 / Compare the tradeoffs, not a slogan.
Keep them or return them?
Purchased cardboard: the boxes are yours to keep, pass along or handle after the move.
Frogbox rental: plan time to unpack and prepare the bins for the agreed pickup.
Fixed move or open-ended storage?
Cardboard: ownership can suit a longer storage plan, subject to the box and storage conditions.
Rental: include both packing and unpacking in the dates you choose. A changed closing date does not automatically change your rental.
What needs preparing?
Cardboard: depending on the box design and condition, allow for assembly, sealing materials and protective packing.
Reusable bins: follow the supplied bin instructions. Fragile belongings still need suitable protection; the container is not a substitute for wrapping.
What happens afterward?
Cardboard: plan for storage, reuse or locally accepted recycling.
Rental: keep the return date and collection instructions with your unpacking plan. Do not assume an extension is included.
03 / Put the complete costs side by side.
For cardboard, compare the sizes and quantities you actually need, any packing tape and cushioning, transport or delivery, and applicable tax. Used or free boxes may be an option, but availability, condition and sizes vary. A free empty box is not automatically the right container for every belonging.
For Frogbox, review the quote for your chosen Small/Large mix and rental period, standard transport, any extra distance or access charges, and tax. Compare the same move dates and scope. Do not compare a cardboard bundle price with only the bin-rental portion of a different quote.
Neither option is always cheaper. There is no matched-basket savings claim here. Use the current Frogbox rental and delivery FAQ and your actual quote rather than a headline price from an unrelated move.
04 / Choose the load before the size.
Dense items can become difficult to handle before a box looks full. Divide books and kitchen items into manageable loads; use roomier containers for lighter belongings such as linens and clothes. Leave space for protective materials and follow the container instructions. Filling every available litre is not the goal.
Frogbox lists Small at 46 litres and 21 × 15 × 9 inches, and Large at 94 litres and 24 × 20 × 12 inches. These product specifications are not a promise that a particular item, cardboard-box count or vehicle load will fit. Check the actual item and container; do not treat the listed measurements as guaranteed usable interior clearance.
A mixed approach can also make sense: choose suitable containers for different jobs rather than forcing every belonging into one format. For the count itself, use our moving-box quantity worksheet instead of assuming every two-bedroom home needs the same order.
05 / Plan the finish, whichever material you choose.
Keep cardboard dry and assess its condition before reusing it. If you plan to recycle it, check what the local collection program accepts and how it should be prepared. EPA guidance supports clean, dry recyclables and local acceptance checks; recycling is not the same as putting any box in any bin.
With reusable rentals, organize unpacking so empty bins can be kept together and prepared for collection. Check the agreed return arrangements before making another plan for the bins. A reusable product is intended for repeated use, but this guide does not claim a quantified carbon saving or that one material is always environmentally better. The wider picture depends on actual reuse, transport and end-of-use handling.
06 / Three questions before you order.
- How long will the belongings stay boxed? Include the days before the move and the unpacking time afterward.
- Which sizes and handling needs do you have? Separate dense, light, fragile and awkward belongings before choosing a mix.
- What is the complete cost and after-use plan? Compare transport, materials, dates and terms—not just the empty container.
If a Frogbox rental fits your plan, check both exact addresses and dates. Each delivery and pickup address must independently be within 75 road miles of the Hockley service origin; a city name alone does not confirm availability. Explore the local moving guides for property and area planning.
CHECK YOUR RENTAL OPTIONS07 / Quick answers.
Are reusable rental boxes always cheaper than cardboard?
No. Compare the quantities, rental duration, packing materials, transport, access and taxes for the same move. This guide makes no universal savings claim.
Can cardboard boxes be reused?
Often, if their condition and design are suitable for the next use. Check the box rather than assuming every used box is ready to protect the same belongings again.
Does Frogbox sell cardboard moving boxes?
No. Frogbox offers reusable moving-bin rentals. You pack and move your belongings, then prepare the rental bins for the agreed pickup.
